Hopefully we’ll hear more about this new game soon and it doesn’t end up like Beyond Good & Evil 2, which was announced in 2017 and still has shown no indication of actually releasing. The last mainline game was Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist, which was released on PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U back in August 2013. It really seems like Ubisoft tried its hardest to place Fisher in everything except a traditional new game, which is what everyone wants instead. There was also an animated series reported to be in the works. Additionally, Sam Fisher became a playable Operator in Rainbow Six Siege. He had a cameo appearance in Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, and Splinter Cell VR games are in the works for Oculus hardware. Ubisoft has brought back series protagonist Sam Fisher in many different ways, but not in a new, modern game. Unfortunately, that is all of the information about this supposed new Splinter Cell game. This changed, however, with Ubisoft’s acquisition of the Tom Clancy name and what was originally a sci-fi stealth game called Drift became Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell - a more grounded stealth game. It is also reportedly in early production right now, but it could be officially announced sometime next year. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell was first pitched as a science fiction James Bond-style spy game with inspiration taken from the Metal Gear Solid franchise.
Right now, it’s unclear which studios are working on the game, but the lead developer is reportedly outside of Ubisoft’s traditional Montreal area. A report from VGC states that Ubisoft has finally greenlit a new mainline Splinter Cell game.
